MoCity1st Cares Continues

mocity1st-caresby Rev. Eddie Hilliard (guest blogger)

WOW! I hope you were present last Sunday for our Mo City 1st CARE Day Kick-Off.  We shared a great meal together as a community and we also committed ourselves to caring for our community.

United Methodists assert that faith and good works must accompany one another. What we say we believe must be confirmed by how we enact our beliefs. Our personal salvation must be exhibited in ministry and mission in the world. We contend that Christian doctrine and Christian ethics are inseparable, that faith should inspire service. The integration of personal piety and social holiness has been a hallmark of our tradition. We affirm the biblical precept that “faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead” (James 2:17) This church has affirmed our willingness to live up to the standard set for us by our founder John Wesley.

You have promised that on October 22 you will join us here at church for a light breakfast, be willing to accept a blessing from your pastor and commit yourself to the work of the church.  One thing you might do is spruce up our Prayer Path.  This area provides a place for the individuals of our community to come for quiet contemplation, to hold celebrations like weddings, quinceaneras and our own famous Walk to Bethlehem. We will be landscaping and painting and more to make this area more appealing for others.

You might rather go with us to the Catalina Apartments just across I-59.  There we will cook hot dogs and play games and provide the gift of presence with all the children and youth of the families there.  This will be an especially rewarding time as we interact with our neighbors who suffer from generations of poverty.

We would love for you to be a part of this incredible day in the life of our church.  It is not too late to sign up and join us.  Go to MoCity1st CARE Day to examine all the opportunities and find one that touches your heart.  There are service projects for people of every age and experience.  Join us as we show that Mo City 1st CAREs!
