Note: Our Trustees continually evaluate the safety and security of our church. Associate Pastor Eddie Hilliard’s role is to work with them on this matter. I’ve asked him to update everyone on their plans, which are in process.
Ensuring the safety and security of our church people and property is a priority for us. In light of recent events, we are currently working to improve our systems to safeguard our church. The Methodist Day School has long had extensive plans for protecting our children and teachers against fire, storms and acts of aggression. We are using these carefully developed plans as a model for our entire facility.
Of late we are working toward a plan to increase security for our church that will apply to anytime our building is in use. This proposition is made more difficult due to the expansive size of our campus. There are 10 unconnected entrances to our church plus emergency exits. We have 5 discrete parking areas and 3 different street entries. Our building is in use most days for at least 12 hours, plus special events on the weekends.
We are developing some small enhancements to make sure we are taking positive steps. These decisions are being made with input from local law enforcement, our own board of Trustees, church staff and members.
No changes have been made but we expect these enhancements will be incremental and ongoing. We are balancing security with remaining an open and inviting House of God.
We need your positive suggestions and ideas; please send these to email@example.com
