Dave Kunst is in the Guinness Book of World Records for walking around the world. Yep, he is the only verified person to circumambulate the landmass of the earth. The journey began from his home in Waseca, Minnesota on June 20, 1970. And his walk finished right back in Waseca, Minnesota on October 4, 1974. It took him 4 years, 3 months and 16 days to take 21,000,000 steps which equals 14,452 miles. Since he couldn’t walk on water, Kunst would simply touch the oceans with his foot and then fly to the next continent to continue the walk.
When Kunst was asked what his first step was to walking around the world, he didn’t hesitate with his reply. According to Kunst, his first step was the moment he actually decided to do it. He made it clear that the most important step was to decide to make the change and then tell people about it. If you don’t do this simple step, if you don’t take a risk to make that change, then it will never happen.
For the next few weeks, we are going to be talking about what we can do to change our lives. Don’t worry, we won’t be walking around the world but we will be challenged to take the first step in changing our lives. What is the first step for us?
We are going to look at six words, (one word a week), that’s it. It doesn’t sound like much, does it? But you and I know that words have incredible power! They have power to make you laugh, cry, or get angry. Words have the power to heal and to hurt, to build bridges that connect, or walls that separate. With over one million words in the English language there’s a lot of potential power. And we believe that by taking the first step and focusing on one word per week, some amazing things can happen. I know it is hard to believe that focusing on one word can make all the difference with your family, your job, your faith. If you have trouble believing it, join us each week as we look at the power one word has to change our lives forever.
