I don’t know about you, but there is something about Charlie Brown and his friends that always makes me smile and usually makes me think. Snoopy, Linus, Pig Pen and the rest have a special charm that just draws me to them. I especially love those episodes when Charlie Brown seeks psychiatric advice from Lucy for 5 cents. Lucy tells Charlie Brown that life is like a deck chair on the cruise ship of life. What you have to decide, Lucy says, is whether you want your deck chair to face backward so you can see where you have been, or if you want your deck chair to face forward so you can see where you are going. Exasperated, Charlie Brown responds, “I’m having trouble just getting my deck chair unfolded!”
First United Methodist Church Missouri City is a church that has our deck chairs facing forward. I am excited about the future that is in front of us. This week has been an incredible week with over 350 volunteers and children not only having fun but learning about the love and grace of Jesus. And that is only one part of how God is using FUMC to make a difference in the community and the Kingdom of God.
Do you want to know all that our church is doing? Do you want to hear reports from the Finance and Trustees teams? Do you want to learn what our next steps might be in moving toward the 2020 Vision? If you answered YES to any of these questions, then you need to make plans to come to our Quarterly Church Conference on Sunday, June 26 at 5:00 in the Fellowship Hall. We will have a time of fellowship and ice cream before hearing reports from our teams.
Let’s keep our deck chairs facing forward as we move into the dog days of summer!
