Summer of Love – Jamie Scott

SUMMER OF LOVE-2016-CAROUSEL

I love the story of Jamie Scott. Jamie was a first grader trying out for a part in the school play. He had his heart set on being in it, but his mom was afraid that he would not be chosen. On the day parts were awarded, his mom anxiously waited in the car for her son. The bell rang and the school doors flew open as a flood of kids ran out of the building. The mom saw Jamie running at full speed to the car, she saw his eyes filled with pride and excitement, “Guess what Mom, I made the play! I have been chosen to clap and cheer!

If you have ever experienced the pain of not being chosen or being the last one picked, then you understand the excitement that Jamie felt by being chosen. There is nothing quite like the feeling of being chosen. We are wired to want to be wanted. It matters that we are chosen…

I have been asked many times why I decided to be a follower of Jesus. People have wondered why I would ever have wanted to become a preacher. Well, the answer is simple. It is found tucked away in a little-read letter by the Apostle John when he invites us into fellowship with God. And with that invitation I am reminded that I have been chosen by God to abide with Him.

I am a follower of Jesus because He chose me. And that is why I do what I do, to remind all of us who are sometimes passed over or chosen last, that there is a God who chooses us first. I love reminding people that there is this God who is greater than anything we can imagine and this God whispers in our ear, “I choose you…”

And that is enough for me….

Breathe Peace,
