LOVE ALL! We close our Advent Conspiracy series today. And the question we have to ask is a hard one and even harder to answer. If Christmas changed everything, if Christmas changed the world, could Christmas still change the world today? I think so but I also think there is a catch to it. It is up to us to see that it still can change the world. You see, it is our turn to love; it is our turn to partner with God, in our own small ways, to make things right. In order for Christmas to change the world today we can no longer just tell the story of Christmas, we have to live it out.
That means it won’t be enough this year to sit on our rear ends during the Advent season and Christmas services. We have to do more than sing a few carols and remind ourselves that Jesus was born, and then go home and open Christmas presents. This year that is not enough. This year we cannot just yell out “Jesus is the reason for the season” or put a bumper sticker on our car that says “Put Christ back into Christmas.” This year, if we are going to be rebels, if we are going to enter into this conspiracy, we have to live out the Christmas story. And if we are going to live out the story of Jesus, we have to reflect the same humble love that drove Jesus to become one of us.
As we worship fully, spend less, give more, and love all, something begins to form that is greater than any single person or denomination. We celebrate other ministries. We focus on places in our own communities and around the world where we can combine our efforts with our brothers and sisters. As we love our neighbors and one another, the Kingdom of God grows and the world takes notice.
What if Christmas was no longer about stuff? What if, this Christmas, we could worship fully, spend less, give more and love all?
