Follow, Follow, Follow

Greetings!

For years now, there has been a news story floating around the internet concerning Lucky, a German Shepherd seeing-eye dog. It seems as if Lucky has been linked to all four of his previous owners’ deaths. He led his first owner in front of a bus and the second off the end of a pier. He actually pushed his third owner off a railway platform just as the Cologne to Frankfurt express was approaching and he walked his fourth owner into heavy traffic, before abandoning him and running away to safety. According to the report, apart from epileptic fits, he has a lovely temperament. Oh yeah, the organization that is responsible for Lucky’s placement has no intention of telling the next owner about Lucky’s unfortunate history. They are afraid it will make the new owner nervous.

Follow - Confirmation 2015 - SCREEN HOLDThe story of Lucky made me laugh when I first read it, but as you probably guessed the story is simply not true. But perhaps, as absurd as this story is, there is a lesson to be learned. In Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus warns about “the blind leading the blind.” I believe He would have made the same warning about “the dangerous leading the blind.” Either way, we need to step back and take a good look at who is leading us. Who have you chosen to follow?

In the 10:30 worship service, 11 young people will make the choice to publicly proclaim who they will follow. They will choose to follow the only One truly safe guide. They will chose to follow the One who knows the number of hairs on their heads, the One who knows when they stand and when they sit. They will choose to become followers of Jesus.

I hope you join me in welcoming these young people: Lyric Calvert, Kaylah Dove, Jaric Johnson, Katherine (Kat) Lazor, Alyssa Lucas, Jade Merrell, Amelia Mertz, Andrea Mertz, Jack Pytel, Abby Simmons, Jillian Voehl. .

They have made their choice. Will you?

Breathe Peace,

Marty
